Frequently Asked Questions - WTware FAQ

Q: Does WTware work only with aged hardware?
A: No. WTware PRO includes drivers for the majority of modern hardware and we add all the new drivers.

Q: WTware main goal - old hardware usage?
A: No. Certainly, on terminal hardware can be saved up to $100-200 per terminal, but it's not the main point. The main goal is to make system administration easier by deploying terminals. All the software is once installed on the server, terminal system can't be infected by viruses, users can't setup unnecessary programs, etc. Terminals are just more reliable.

Q: Is a very powerfull server required for terminal solution?
A: It depends on your users, on required software and tasks. Certainly, several architects using ArchiCAD will easily load four opteron server, but it's more likely an exclusion. On the other hand, in our practice 15-20 users used terminal "server" Celeron-800/512RAM/with one IDE hard disk and enjoyed productivity working with Word + Excel + corporate information system.
The only practical way to determine required server productivity is to create working stand with PC as a server and 3-5 connected users. So you can estimate it's load.

Q: Terminals are your solution?
A: Of course not. Server side is made by Microsoft, first Windows terminal server appeared in NT4. Terminal services client is included in any Microsoft Windows. We've made the client that is more reliable and easy to setup.

Q: Is WTware the only terminal services client?
A: No, not even the first one. First WTware release was in 2003, when Netstation and DIET-PC already existed. The most popular in its class is Thinstation.
Thinstation is free, like WTware Lite, and is open-source, unlike WTware Lite. So Thinstation can be interesting for those who would like to gain an understanding of Linux, recompile images, correct something. In its turn WTware is easier and user friendly, it's faster, well-documented, doesn't require any Linux knowledges. We provide users with WTware techsupport.
